Prof. Dr. M. A. Ittyachan was an eminent physicist, visionary educationist, institution builder, and inspiring leader whose contributions have left an indelible mark on higher education and physics teaching in the state.

Prof. Ittyachan holds a unique and distinguished place in the history of Mahatma Gandhi University, having been the first faculty member appointed to the University at its inception in 1983. With remarkable foresight, dedication, and tireless effort, he played a pivotal role in shaping the University’s academic foundations during its formative years.

As the Founder Director of the School of Pure and Applied Physics, Mahatma Gandhi University, he laid the groundwork for what has today evolved into a vibrant centre of excellence in teaching and research. Under his leadership, the School gained recognition for its academic rigor, research culture, and commitment to nurturing generations of physicists and scholars.

Prof. Ittyachan also served the University with distinction as its Acting Vice-Chancellor, providing able leadership during a crucial period and upholding the highest standards of academic governance and institutional integrity.

Beyond the University, he was the Founder President of the Academy of Physics Teachers, Kerala, an organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of physics education and promoting professional development among teachers. Through this initiative, he inspired countless educators and contributed significantly to the advancement of science education in Kerala.

He was an exceptional orator whose lectures captivated audiences, blending profound knowledge with wit, warmth, and a delightful sense of humour. His ability to communicate complex ideas with simplicity made him a beloved teacher and sought-after speaker.

His legacy lives on through the institutions he built, the teachers he mentored, the students he inspired, and the values of scholarship, integrity, and service that he exemplified throughout his life.

The academic fraternity of Kerala pays heartfelt tribute to this distinguished physicist, educator, and leader. His contributions will be remembered with gratitude and admiration for generations to come.
